The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

Hebrews 1:3a

I recently stressed the importance of words, not just in theory, but in truth and practice. The Bible makes it very clear that words are how all things came to be in existence and it makes clear the impact all words, both ours and others, have on our surroundings. Even more, the writer of Hebrews gives the revelation that the spoken words of Jesus holds all things together. Since He is the exact representation of God Almighty, the words he spoke are actually the bond that keeps all creation held together in the natural and supernatural realm. So then, what are the deep implications of this truth?

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Matthew 24:35) Therefore, even when all creation falls apart for the ushering in of the renewal of all things, his words will still hold ROCK SOLID- they will not disappear. This is confirmed in numerous places such Isaiah 40:8, 1 Peter 1:23-25, and Psalm 119:89. Follow me here for a minute as I connect some scriptures…

A false witness will perish, but the words of an obedient man will endure. (Proverbs 21:28) Jesus fulfilled this since he was the Word that became flesh and he is the obedient one. He stated himself that he only speaks what he hears and only does what he saw his Father doing (John 5/8/14). “He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth, there is nothing false about him.” (John 7:18) Since Jesus was willing to be obedient in all things, even unto death, his words are truth and there is no deceit, nor lie, nor false teaching, nor mistake that came from his lips!!! Every word he spoke and continues to speak to our spirits holds weight, has value, is established, and will endure throughout time.

Are you grasping this? Every word from him can be trusted 100%! No matter how circumstances may seem, or how our physical/emotional condition feels, we can trust that our Lord God has not and will not lie. Hence, the statement in Hebrews, “…it is impossible for God to lie,” is fact and proven over and over.

A major part of his invitation into an abundant life is to trust him at his word, that he will sustain you, hold you, keep you together just as his word does the same for all of creation. A few years back the Lord spoke to me in the stillness. He gave me instructions to invest in property in another state other than where we live. I didn’t have a lot of money and it was going to be a stretch, especially since I have never owned property. I had no clue the process, the upkeep, and part of the deal was to rent the property, not move there. I decided to wait on this. I spent days in prayer and seeking his heart to make sure that this was his guidance. He confirmed it over and over through multiple ways including scripture, so I presented it to my wife. We spent time discussing the steps, the pros and cons, and everything under the sun about navigating the process of purchasing a property in a region we did not live in.

But you know what we didn’t do? We didn’t take Jesus at his word and believe that he would hold all things in our life together; that he does not lead us down a deceptive path. Instead, we looked at the economy, finances, and physical circumstances. Well, about one year later the Covid pandemic swept across the world bringing a shake down and change to everyone’s lives. The one thing that most people probably didn’t see coming is that real estate went through the roof! But God did. He knew it was going to happen and if we had followed his word, the market we were looking at tripled in price within that 2 year period. Our investment would have been a tremendous financial blessing.

You see, the Lord had something to give me that would testify to his goodness and his faithfulness. Yet I allowed fear of the unknown to be more true than his word in my life. It is too late now to act upon what he told me then. Yet, I learned an enormous lesson. Our Savior wants the best for us. Even when all things seem to be shaken, his word holds true. As for me, I have learned to let go of the shame and regret of not being obedient to him. I also now have an experiential understanding that our God will always follow through with his word. Even better, since he transforms all things to good including my mistakes, I can now pass this on to others.
