When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.

“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles!

Mark 6:2

The Kingdom of Heaven is an amazing reality. An actual reality that is more real than our physical world because the physical realm was made by it (Hebrews 11:3). There are many ways to become powerful in this world, in the flesh we can lift weights, become athletic, make lots of money, increase wealth or political prowess, but not in the spiritual realm. Those are all meaningless in the Kingdom of Heaven. The Jews knew this, they understood the scriptures that stated things like: A wise man has great power and a man of knowledge increases strength (Proverbs 24:5) or when God’s word speaks of wisdom he states, “Counsel and sound judgement are mine, I am understanding and have power” (Proverbs 8:14).

They were amazed at the teaching and miracles Jesus was displaying and attributed it to the wisdom that God had given him. Three of the four gospels write about this account relating his teaching and wisdom to power. They each use the Greek word Dunamis or Dynamis which means power in the original language. That is an indication to you and I of the importance of wisdom. I know that when the Spirit first revealed this to me, I didn’t quite understand what wisdom even was. One thing I did know, if I wanted to be a disciple of Jesus, to become like him, I needed wisdom because he was wiser than Solomon (Matthew 12:42) and the people recognized it.

Determined that the Bible had all my answers, I went seeking the Lord’s guidance. I found that wisdom gives us insight into spiritual things, insight into the Kingdom of Heaven where real power resides. Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord and continues in growing in knowledge, understanding, and believing God’s word as true above all else (Proverbs 2:6). Do you see where I am going with this? This connects to everything that Jesus teaches, to much of what I have already shared. If you or I want to see God’s power on display we need wisdom which is found in believing his WORD.

The more you know as foundational truth, the easier it is to see the lies of the enemy, discern the Spirit of God in your daily walk of life, and partner with him to allow his power to be displayed so that others may witness the glory, wonder, awe, and love of God.

I recall in the process of desiring wisdom I hungrily read through more and more scripture, highlighting large sections of Proverbs and writing in the sides of my Bible, “Season of Wisdom.” I reflect back now as I still see it in there and chuckle a bit because wisdom does not come in seasons but rather in abundance through relationship with Jesus and his word (Colossians 2:2-3). It is awesome to know that God corrects all our little mistakes and misunderstandings. He is so good!

Years later, I read through my journals and observe the power of God on display in my life because of the wisdom he has given. And yes, I attribute any wisdom I have to God giving it to me, for he is the One who has it all. A specific memory was during the Covid shelter in place order. I remember that one night I went to bed with a headache and woke up the next morning still with it. That next day I began to not feel well and my thoughts started running wild. Did I have Covid? What was going to happen? Was this going to be a major problem? Then I began to counter each thought with the wisdom that the Lord had placed in my heart. Promise after promise in the word said that he would protect me, keep me from harm, that I had authority in Name of Jesus, that I didn’t have to be afraid, long life and health to my body through his word, and on and on.

I continued to fight with the wisdom of the word but my circumstances did not change. I said, “I’m not taking this anymore.” By lunchtime I was fed up with how I was feeling and started to do pushups and situps. Instantly, blood rushed to my head, I got dizzy and my head throbbed even more. “No, in Jesus’ Name, ” I declared aloud. I went and changed clothes to go running. My body said don’t do it, but my spirit believed for more. I trudged along, one step after another, praying and asking God for guidance. Just before the 1 mile marker on my run I heard the Holy Spirit say, “It is a lying spirit.”

“Lying spirit, I silence and rebuke you in the Name of Jesus. My God has promised health to my body and that is what I have.” Immediately my body felt amazing!! I hit the 1 mile marker in stride, leaping and laughing with joy. All the pain, soreness, and sickness I had felt was gone.

I praise the Lord for his wisdom that gives us power to overcome both the natural things of this world and the supernatural. Remember what the angel said to Mary, “For nothing is impossible with God.” It is the truth. It was for Jesus, the apostles, other followers in Acts, and it is for me and you. Find wisdom in Jesus through the Word and watch him display this power in your own life.
