Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand.
Psalm 20:6
The saving power of the LORD God is our hope but he is also our salvation right here and now. This is the literal translation of this passage. The words “saving power” are two Hebrew words put together, yesa (yeh-shah) which is a form of salvation, and gbura (gheb-oo-raw) which means strength or might. Jesus is God’s salvation for us. He answered us from heaven and sent Jesus for our victory. Yes, someday we will go to heaven, but we are saved right now.
What I mean is this; we have safety, welfare, prosperity, salvation, and victory on this earth now because of what Jesus did. These are the definitions of God’s salvation for us and Jesus has handed them to us freely. We do not have to limp through life, depressed, beat down, and defeated waiting for our day in heaven. That is a lie that Satan has spun in the church community, and many have taken the bait. NO! God’s Word clearly states that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), stripped Satan of his power (Colossians 2:15), and gave us authority to be conquerors (Romans 8:37).
David understood this firsthand, which is why he wrote the words, “Now I know…” in Psalm 20. Time after time God saved David in his place of circumstance. He was chased by Saul, camped in the wilderness, traveling from place to place unsure of what would happen next. Yet, he constantly inquired of the LORD and God would answer him with a word that would lead not only to safety, but also to victory and an abundance of plunder and provision. God’s saving power was available for David in this life.
But it gets even better…
You are now God’s anointed because of Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:21), if you trust in him as your Lord and Savior. You are an heir to the throne (Romans 8:17) and part of his family (Hebrews 2:11). Therefore, this same promise applies to you and I. God wants you safe, healthy, successful, and victorious!!! No strings attached, just part of the free gift of grace offered through believing Jesus Christ.
Let me paint a picture for you.
At one point in stepping out in faith to follow Jesus, he led us to take a family vacation. But not just any vacation, a road trip that we were to take and not plan. Just trust Jesus. We had just purchased a used truck and we’re hoping that it would be reliable, but had no guarantees. My wife was having health issues and was fearful of being stuck in the middle of nowhere and not feeling well. Did I include the fact that we had 3 young children crammed into one back seat??? This could be a recipe for disaster.
As the days approached to leave, I continued to pray and ask for his guidance on how to proceed. The Lord showed me what things to pack and how to prepare. He also reassured me that this was going to be an awesome experience. We headed north one morning with great anticipation in my heart, but fear and anxiety in my wife. I knew that there would be challenges but I trusted that God would give me and my family victory.
Our first day of travel was light and we were led to a beautiful hotel with a pool and free meals. The next day we continued on into a new state, Oregon! We explored and journeyed our way through, trusting we’d find gas, food, and lodging. We actually camped along a river and we got to swim, fish, and float, staying up late and reading our Bibles together every day as a family. After 10 days of traveling and exploring throughout the entire state of Oregon from mountains to deserts to forests to coasts, we headed home. Not once did we get lost and stranded, nor did we ever break down, nor go without food or provisions. My wife had victory over fear and anxiety and as a gift from God, our final night stay on the journey home was in the largest hotel suite we ever experienced. It had extra rooms, extra beds, and we were given a discount at checkout for some unknown reason giving us the cheapest rate out of any others we had stayed at! Our family actually was able to sprawl out and rest.
